The value of basic Blackjack strategy is to lower the house advantage and give the player a better chance of winning.  Blackjack is a game that has had people using computer simulations, mostly based on mathematical probabilities, for years, trying to determine what the best play in certain situations is. Many strategy tables are the result of these kinds of simulations.  Basic strategy is referring to when a player should Hit, Stand, take Insurance, Double Down, Split, etc.  The player should know what to do in these situations, based on the probabilities of the outcome.  This doesn’t mean that he has to memorize odds and probabilities.  But he should memorize strategy tables, or parts of strategy tables until playing according to strategy becomes instinctive to him. Why – because he can’t go Bust, no matter what card he draws.  The highest card he can draw is worth ten points, which at most would give him twenty-one.  Strategy means always Standing on a hand of seventeen or higher. The only cards that won’t make him go Bust are four or lower. Some basic strategy is just common sense if you do a little thinking about mathematics.
