Blackjack tables are usually in a central area of the casino.  They are semi-oval shaped with a flat part on one side.  The dealer stands at the flat side with the players sitting or standing around the oval portion. The table can accommodate five to seven players.  Behind the dealer is the pit. The dealer’s back is to the pit while the players are facing the pit.  The pit is an area for casino staff.  In front of each player is the playing area same like in the game of Poker, Bingo, Roulette and many such casino games. Each spot is indicated on the felt of the table.  The dealer has a chip rack in front of him. There will also be a slot in the table by the dealer.  When players buy chips, the dealer drops in the cash into the slot and gives the player the appropriate amount of chips. 

Somewhere on the table there will be a sign with the table minimum and maximum. Always read the information on this sign.  It tells you the table rules regarding insurance, payouts and whether or not the dealer draws on seventeen.  The table rules may vary from table to table so make sure you know what they are before you begin to play.

Another variation that you may find is the number of decks of cards being used.  If you see a plastic shoe on the table, this means there are probably six to eight decks in use. The shoe holds the cards and is used in dealing.
